What cited sources report about GHRP-6
GHRP-6 is a synthetic hexapeptide growth hormone secretagogue (sequence His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) that acts as an agonist at the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor 1a (GHSR-1a, the ghrelin receptor) and at the CD36 scavenger receptor. It was one of the first GHRP analogs characterized and remains a research compound: GHRP-6 has no FDA-approved indication and no marketing authorization in any major jurisdiction. The bulk of recent peer-reviewed work originates from collaborations between the Cuban Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and Chinese institutions. The summaries below report what individual cited sources state; this page does not assert claims beyond what those sources report.
Wang et al. (2026) — Pharmaceuticals (Basel)
A 2026 preclinical study from the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica and CIGB used a permanent left-anterior-descending coronary-artery ligation rat model and reported that GHRP-6 administered post-surgery reduced interstitial fibrosis and improved echocardiographic measures of left-ventricle function at day 7. Proteomic analysis implicated fatty-acid beta-oxidation, apoptosis-prevention, and antioxidant pathways in the observed cardioprotection.
GHRP-6 attenuated myocardial tissue demise, reduced myocardial interstitial fibrosis/scarring, and integrally improved left ventricle physiology.
Wang et al. (2026) — International Immunopharmacology
A second 2026 preclinical study from the same collaboration described attenuated alveolar inflammation and reduced subsequent interstitial fibrosis in a rodent acute lung injury model receiving GHRP-6. The authors observed that the effects were consistent with the CD36-receptor-mediated cytoprotective mechanism characterized in earlier Cuban work on GHRP-6 across multiple organ systems.
PubChem CID 9810790 — National Center for Biotechnology Information
The PubChem compound record catalogues GHRP-6 as a six-residue peptide of sequence His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2 (molecular formula C46H56N12O6, molecular weight 873.0 g/mol). Aggregated synonyms include the SmithKline Beecham development code SKF-110679, and the record links to the supporting chemical and patent literature.
DrugBank DB12132
The DrugBank entry classifies GHRP-6 as an investigational hexapeptide ghrelin-receptor agonist with no marketing authorization. The record summarizes the proposed cardioprotective and growth-hormone-releasing mechanisms drawn from the preclinical Cuban and Chinese literature.
Coverage notes
The recent GHRP-6 corpus is dominated by a single collaborative network (CIGB Havana plus Chinese institutions). No completed or active large-scale human trial of GHRP-6 is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov as of this writing, and independent replication in non-collaborating laboratories remains limited.
