What cited sources report about Hexarelin
Hexarelin (examorelin) is a synthetic hexapeptide growth hormone secretagogue (sequence His-D-2-methyl-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2) that acts as an agonist at the growth-hormone secretagogue receptor 1a (GHSR-1a, the ghrelin receptor) and at the CD36 scavenger receptor. Hexarelin has no FDA-approved indication and no marketing authorization in any major jurisdiction. The summaries below report what individual cited sources state; this page does not assert claims beyond what those sources report.
Chow (2026) — Indian Journal of Pharmacology
A 2026 preclinical study from the School of Biomedical Sciences at the Chinese University of Hong Kong used golden hamsters subjected to optic-nerve transection and reported dose-dependent retinal-ganglion-cell survival in animals receiving hexarelin (25, 50, 100 μg/kg single daily dose, or 100 and 150 μg/kg twice daily) over 5 days. Survival rates at 7 days were 51.2% (saline), 62.4% (25 μg/kg), 68.5% (50 μg/kg), and 74.6% (100 μg/kg) on the single-dose schedule, with twice-daily 150 μg/kg observed at 109.2%.
Two daily doses of hexarelin increased RGC survival further and 150 μg/kg hexarelin twice daily is optimal for the survival of RGC.
Coutinho et al. (2026) — Journal of Sports Medicine and Physical Fitness
A critical review from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Minas Gerais grouped hexarelin among the growth hormone secretagogues promoted in recreational and professional bodybuilding. The authors observed that the published clinical literature concerns therapeutic dosing protocols and does not represent the supraphysiological or stacked regimens that characterize off-label use.
Most published studies examine therapeutic applications under controlled dosing regimens, not the supraphysiological or combined protocols common in bodybuilding.
